Yosemite in July 2009

We found the most beautiful meadow on the trek down from Glacier Point. It was a beautiful, brilliant green with little wildflowers blooming throughout. I went out to walk in the meadow and found it was full of spongy moss soaking in warm water. The sun had heated the moss and small little pools of water created tiny eco-systems where dragon flies hovered and water skippers scooted across the mirror like tops of the ponds. The meadow was yet another fascinating site in the huge expanse of Yosemite. We had just come from Glacier point where it seemed you could see forever. Gigantic mountains of granite formed in part by huge glaciers that had moved through the area perhaps a century or more before. This magnificent place was made all the more wonderful because I was sharing it with my family while my son was home on R&R from the Iraq war. What a release to all be together in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
