No Clever Story, Just Some Pictures and The Facts Mame

Labor Day week-end really was a couple of days of labor for us. But it was a labor of love. We've been determined for awhile to get a decent gate across the road leading to what has become the family gathering place. Ryan and Sadie rented an auger and rounded up the supplies to do just that. They purchased a nice iron gate from Sadie's Aunt for a good price and 7 large railroad ties. drilling the fence post holes with the auger is much easier than with post hole diggers but it is still a strenuous job.

Sierra jumps in to check the depth. She is rather fearless.

She says, "Its just right."

I wanted to help but I'm afraid I'm not very strong and the auger actually freaked me out a little. Something about being close to a powerful spinning blade is a little intimidating. I helped Ryan with one hole and Sadie helped him with all the rest. That girl can WORK!

Sierra is there to oversee the work

The first post got 3 bags of cement poured in because it will bear the weight of the gate. The others were deep enough to where the earth is put back in around the post slowly and packed down hard to hold it in place. Ryan and Sadie have done a lot of fence building and make an excellent work team of 2.

THE GATE!!!!!!

Ryan loaned me his work chaps and I ran the gas weeder for the first time.

I took a lot of pictures of this busy little cutie
Fresh from her nap, Shasta enjoys the new gate with big sis

Still snapping pictures of this smiley girl

All this fence building and blackberry clearing is hard work so Sierra decides to relax with a soda. Thanks to Grandma Debbie there is a chair that is just Sierra's size.

Serious conversationalist

Dirty face girl

Shasta has her shovel and wants to help

Shasta can't let her sister out do her with the dirty face

Daddy is pretty cute with his fish shirt and his pants hung up on his boot

So begin day two

We didn't waste any time hanging out STAY OUT sign. It won't do any good though. Ryan said it will probably get torn down

Once the posts were set and the gate was hung we took to clearing blackberries along the little creek

raking the blackberry branches into piles to burn this Fall

Ryan and Sadie piled the branches onto the old gate so that they could attach it and pull it behind the truck to the burn pile

Almost park like.

  1. I just love these posts. They make the family seem close. I especially love the way Sierra's personality shines so big. The jumping in the hole was awesome, the kicked back in the chair, so great. What a wonderful family I have.

  2. Thank you!! It has been incredible having Ryan and Sadie and the girls home. We have already had some many wonderful days together. However, it's bittersweet without Melonie and family. And you are right, Sierra does shine :-)
